The Saskatchewan RCMP is asking the public to be on the lookout for a suspect believed to be connected to three stabbings on Big River First Nation.
Ryan Lachance, 29, is described as approximately five feet, six inches tall, weighing 150 pounds. Lachance has brown eyes and brown hair.
In addition to the stabbing investigation, Lachance is also wanted by Big River RCMP in relation to an unrelated aggravated assault in November of 2024.
Other identifying features include a teardrop tattoo under his left eye. Lachance was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a large white logo on it and black pants.
Lachance is considered armed and dangerous. Police warn residents that he should not be approached if he is spotted.
If residents do spot him, they are encouraged to contact police immediately.
The last confirmed sighting of Lachance was reported to be around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Victoire area.
RCMP claim he may be travelling in a stolen black Kia Optima with the Saskatchewan license plate 649 NPP or in a grey BMW SUV.
RCMP noted that it is no longer asking for the public’s assistance in finding a second male suspect.
On Feb. 15, at around 3:50 p.m., Big River RCMP received a report of a stabbing at a home on Big River First Nation. Police determined an altercation between a man and a woman resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for the woman. She was taken to hospital.
At around 4 p.m., a second stabbing was reported at another residence on the First Nation. Police say a group of people entered the home and stabbed a man. He was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At 4:20 p.m., police received word that a third stabbing took place on the First Nation. As a result, a man was transported to hospital by STARS.
While responding to the third stabbing, RCMP received another report, this time concerning an attempted armed robbery.
RCMP say that a man approached a vehicle with a machete and threatened the driver. The incident occurred in Victoire, Sask. – located just south of the First Nation.
The driver fled the area.
The suspect was unable to steal the vehicle and also fled in an unknown direction.
Big River First Nation is located approximately 175 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, there is an increased presence of RCMP on Big River First Nation.
Residents are asked to avoid the areas where police are present and follow any directions given by officers.
