Police in Weyburn say a man has been arrested for uttering threats after warning the public of a potential critical incident Wednesday afternoon on the 100 block of 6th Avenue South. According to Weyburn police, officers received a call from a man that prompted immediate concern for the safety of the public and the individual involved. Residents in the immediate area were urged to remain in their homes while others were told to stay clear of the scene. A critical response was initiated, involving specialized units from both the Weyburn and Estevan Police Services. The collaborative effort was aimed at ensuring public safety and resolving the situation peacefully, a news release from Weyburn police said. The individual was convinced to surrender peacefully around 6:30 p.m. by trained crisis negotiators before being arrested and apprehended under the Mental Health Act, Weyburn police said, adding that public cooperation played a key role ensuring a safe outcome.
