The family of Muhammed Kamran is hopeful for a quick recovery, after the Regina resident was found seriously injured during an evening walk in the city’s north end.

It all began in the early morning hours of May 22.

After visiting family at the Regina General Hospital, Muhammed Kamran and his wife grabbed a late-night dinner before heading to their home in Coronation Park at around midnight on May 21.

“[My parents] came back because they were at the hospital the whole time and didn’t eat. After 12 a.m. they got food. My dad kind of felt heavy, so he said he was going to go on a walk,” Kamran’s son, Muhammed Ayaan, explained.

Before joining his father, Muhammed Ayaan stopped to grab his jacket, giving his dad a two-minute head start.

“I go outside [and] I see my dad’s not there in the alley. [So] I go [down] the usual route where we go through,” he explained.

Continuing to search for his dad, Muhammed Ayaan walked between 6 Ave N and Sheppard Street.

“I go to Sheppard Street and I see my dad laying on the ground in the middle of the road,” he recalled. “When I saw him there, I first thought he was just joking around or something. I got close to him, I see he’s unconscious. He’s severely injured. He wasn’t even moving at all.”

After the initial shock of seeing his father on the ground, Muhammed Ayaan called out for help.

Moiz Ahmed, a family friend from the neighbourhood, came upon the scene and took Kamran to Pasqua Hospital.

“Doctors have already said [he] will [have to be on] bed rest for five months. It’s still a hard time,” Ahmed shared.

Kamran was treated by doctors for multiple injuries, including a critical wound to the stomach – which required emergency surgery.

“I also walk at night around the street, but [have not] experienced a situation like this in the 40 years [I lived there],” Ahmed noted.

Being the sole provider for his family, Kamran’s son said the entire incident has caused a great amount of stress for him and his family.

In response, the community has organized a GoFundMe page to support Kamran on his road to recovery.

As of Monday, the effort has raised more than $21,000 of its $50,000 goal.

“He’s a bit better. He has a lot of bruises on his head. His shoulders are swelling, he has a fracture above his eyebrow,” said Muhammed Ayaan.

“Inshallah he will get better. I hope so.”

In a statement to CTV News, Regina police confirmed that officers were called to Pasqua Hospital after a man suffering from serious injuries was brought in by family members.

The service confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway – and encourages anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Regina police or submit a tip through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
