Big River RCMP is investigating after human remains were found in a remote area west of Victoire, Sask. The discovery was reported to the RCMP on July 18. In collaboration with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the deceased has been identified as Sherry Michelle Ahenakew of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. According to police, her family has been notified, and victim services have been made available. Ahenakew was reported missing to Ahtahkakoop RCMP on June 12. Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes took on the investigation shortly after Ahenakew was reported missing. Her death is considered suspicious in nature. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact police by calling 310-RCMP or submitting a tip through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers. RCMP say further updates will be provided when they become available. Victoire is located 165 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
