A total of nine people have been charged after an investigation into an overnight auto theft in east Regina earlier this month. Shortly after 10 a.m. on Aug. 9, the Regina Police Service (RPS) received a report that six vehicles were stolen from a business on the 500 block of 12th Avenue East. The caller told police they believed the theft was committed the previous night. The total value of the stolen vehicles was estimated at approximately $130,000. Investigators with the service’s property crimes unit were called in. Over the course of six days, the unit recovered four of the six vehicles and charged nine suspects. Eight men, aged 32 to 20, face a collective 17 charges related to breaking and entering, theft and possession of property obtained by crime. A 35-year-old woman also faces possession charges in addition to fraud over $5,000. Eight of the accused made their first appearances in provincial court on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12, while the 25-year-old accused is set to make his first appearance on Sept. 25. All of the accused individuals hail from Pinehouse, Sask., which is located approximately 350 kilometres north of Prince Albert. The investigation is considered ongoing. RPS asks anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact the service or Regina Crime Stoppers.
