The City of Regina will be charging a $50 fee per month to users who do not complete the transition to the new advanced metering infrastructure system. Members of Regina Water Meter Alliance, a group of over 1,600 users, have been receiving letters from the city with differing messages. Grete Hansen is part of the alliance and said that some water meters are being charged hundreds - or thousands of dollars extra on their water bills.“The letters have been slightly different. So either we’re going to cut your water off, we may cut your water off, we’re going to charge you $50 a month,” she said. “But I want them to justify the $50. How many houses at $50 would that cover a salary?” Hansen’s letter said that if she does not contact Neptune Technology Group within the next seven days, that her water services will be disconnected. Her letter arrived on Aug. 14 - seven days ago. “When they were getting the new water meters put in, instead of actually doing a pilot project to figure out if there were going to be problems,” she said. The City of Regina did not submit a statement in time to CTV News in response to the letters.
