A Regina man is facing several assault related charges after police responded to a report of a firearms offence in the early hours of Monday. Officers were dispatched to a business on the 4100 block of 5th Avenue at around 1:20 a.m., with the Aerial Support Unit (ASU) able to get eyes on the scene quickly, according to a release from the Regina Police Service (RPS). ASU officers saw two men fighting and relayed the information to officers on the ground who were arriving on the scene. As police approached the men, one of them fled from the area on foot. The police plane tracked the suspect to a backyard in the 1100 block of King Street and directed officers on the ground to his location, where he was arrested. During the arrest, the suspect became “combative” with officers and allegedly spit on one of them. Through the investigation, police said the suspect, a 20-year-old man, had physically assaulted two people and threatened to shoot them. According to RPS, two other people reported that they were also threatened by the suspect. The suspect has been charged with two counts of assault, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and four counts of uttering threats. He made his first court appearance in Regina provincial court on Tuesday morning.
