Two men from Ontario are facing charges after over seven million cigarettes were seized on a Saskatchewan highway. On Feb. 21, the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol was conducting inspections at the weigh scale on Highway 1 near Swift Current, according to the Saskatchewan RCMP. Highway patrol determined a semi trailer was carrying what was believed to be tobacco products and contacted Swift Current RCMP to continue the investigation. The Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team also assisted in the investigation. Officers found and seized 26 pallets of illegal cigarettes in the semi trailer — an estimated 7.2 million cigarettes. Two men from Brampton, Ont. are charged with unlawfully possessing tobacco for sale, unlawfully possessing unmarked tobacco, and unlawfully possessing tobacco. They are both scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on April 1.
