A public inquest into the death of a resident at the Moosomin Southeast Integrated Care Centre has been set for March 30 to April 2. Karen Ireland, 50, was taken to the care centre under the Mental Health Services Act by the RCMP on Nov. 22, 2022, according to the province. Once admitted into the centre, she was placed into a secure room and was allowed to go outside unsupervised. Ireland was last seen by hospital staff, sitting in the front foyer around 7 a.m. on Nov. 23, 2022. A short time later, staff noticed she was not in her room or outside, and initiated a missing person’s report. Ireland was found dead outside around 2:30 p.m. that day about 550 metres from the centre. The first day of the inquest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Canalta Moosomin, with Coroner Frederick Kovach to preside. The purpose of the inquest is to establish details about the cause of death and to prevent similar deaths in the future.
