A man arrested after a dangerous person alert was issued in Weyburn, was wanted on several sexual assault charges. In an alert issued at 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday, the Weyburn Police Service were conducting an operation on the 800 block of 5th Street North and residents were asked to avoid the area. The alert was cancelled at 9:20 p.m. after a man was taken into custody without incident. According to an update from police on Thursday, the service had been investigating to determine the whereabouts of Brandon Hendershot over the past six months and had received information that he was in a home in the area on Wednesday. Officers visited home and say they received “concerning information” about the suspect that led to significant concerns about the public’s safety. Due to the information police received, the dangerous person alert was issued. Weyburn police, as well as the Estevan Police Service and police negotiators, engaged in a joint operation to arrest Hendershot. Police say after about five hours of communication, he exited the residence and surrendered peacefully. Hendershot was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants in Nova Scota, which were extended to Saskatchewan. He faces five counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, two counts of invitation to sexual touching, and one count of failure to appear in court. Weyburn police say Hendershot will be transported to Nova Scotia for his court appearance.
