Officers issued 15 warnings as part of a weekend check stop aimed at getting impaired drivers off the roads near Moose Jaw. Between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on March 21, officers with Saskatchewan RCMP, as well as Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan officers from White Butte, Regina, and Moose Jaw, tested 154 drivers for impairment on Highway 2, just north of Moose Jaw city limits. In addition to the 15 warnings, officers also suspended one driver’s licence for alcohol consumption before driving and fined one driver $204 for driving over 25 km/h above the speed limit. “While we appreciate the many drivers who chose to stay sober Saturday night, even one driver under the influence is one too many,” Staff Sgt. Jason Sauve of Sask. RCMP Southwest Traffic Services said in a news release. “The risks are too severe, and the consequences can change lives forever.” The check stop was held to target impaired driving as part of National Impaired Driving Prevention Week.
